CD or not CD?

Well here's a subject that's quite close to my heart...... is it wrong to burn or download music, without paying for it? Is it stealing?

Yea its stealing, but I do it anyway. If I think about it I feel quilty, maybe this is bad.

I guess it's stealing - just more in the way of Robin Hood taking from the rich to feed the poor. I don't burn music of small or independant artists, only the wealthy ones. And if I ever am rich enough to buy everything that that's great, but until then I shall burn from the rich to feed my soul that longs for new lyrics and the sweet sound of musical compilations.

Well this is fascinating, how you can manage to somehow justify your already guilty conscience! Maybe I should first ask the question, is stealing wrong? And then we got a better start! Because the last time I checked… I think it is. So ‘miss Robin Hood’ what’s the difference between stealing the music from the CD store and downloading it? Is there a difference? I would argue that there’s not...

These days, I'm not sure how I feel about sharing music and burning them on to computer. I do burn CD's, perhaps because I long for a larger selection of music despite the high price of Cd's... As Katie mott, I like to buy cd's from small artists to support them... However I've bought so many cds with my sisters and family on purpose to be able to share. I don't know what to say. I might be willing to come clean and say that I won't continue to "steal" because I wouldn't burn movies or copy artwork... But then again, where do we draw the line? Where is the point where it is not stealing? Can I share with family? If so, why not my close friends? And so this "burning" affects artists so much, why are some of them so disgustingly rich? What about if you download a song to hear an artists music and therefore go out and buy a cd? I think it's a difficult line to classify.

It's a difficult question. I've stopped downloading with intent to keep, although I think downloading to evaluate a song is a good idea... That said about stopping the downloading, it's taking a while to give up all the downloaded music...they're just going one by one. I've bought three CDs since giving up downloading, and I guess the only change I would make is the price in new CDs. They're more than ridiculous - they should never be more than $10 I think.

I stopped downloading by the way because I felt like God was urging me too...

Everyone should make up their own mind on this and not feel pressured by others.

Guys - this is how it is:

Im a member of an independant band, hoping to become bigger over time, and as nice as it is to hear that you lot would buy my music now, its crazy that if we suddenly became big, you'd steal from us.

And the whole 'Musicians are rich' thing is a load of poo poo. The majority of artists make losses on albums, and almost all musicians make a loss on tour (unless you're like Michael Jackson or U2 or something.)

The only way you make a living being a musician is from songwriting royalties

COPYING CD'S HITS MUSICIANS WHERE IT HURTS....in their wallets. So cut it out!

By the way - i am a nice person, but this has a direct impact on my livelihood!
